Flight Lieutenant Suhas Biswas of the Indian Air Force – Ashok Chakra Awardee

Flight Lieutenant Suhas Biswas was the first ever Air Force Officer to be awarded the Ashok Chakra. On 3rd February 1952,the U.P. area Command of the Indian Army had planned a tactical exercise in Lucknow. Some of the top brass of the Army Headquarters had decided to witness the exercise and was flown by Flight Lieutenant Suhas Biswas Luckhnow. On their return journey to Delhi from Lucknow, the port engine developed serious trouble and caught fire. He force landed the aircraft in open area near the Sandila Railway Station. All the occupants walked out of the crashed aircraft unhurt with the pilot. For his brave skillful effort, he was conferred with Ashok Chakra.
