Lance Naik Sunder Singh – Ashok Chakra Awardee

On 18 March 1956, 4 Jak Rifles was deployed at Hussainiwala near Ferozepur. The unit was attacked by Pakistani army in the middle of the night. The Unit not only repulsed the attack but also dislodged the attackers from the right side of the guide-bund. But the nose and right end of the guide-bound remained with the enemy.

Lance Naik Sunder Singh Volunteered for the task. It was his courage and great presence of mind that enabled 4 JAK infantry to occupy the nose. This feat earned him the Ashoka Chakra.
